Parang making, Siasai Village, Kota Belud

Drop by Siasai Village in Kota Belud to learn more of the ancient traditions of parang making in Sabah. The village is famed for its handmade parangs by the Bajau community. A parang is a medium-sized tool or weapon, or better known as a long blade or machete has been handmade by the Bajaus in Sabah for generations. It is used for clearing land, cutting meat and also as wall decorations.

Getting There

It’s about 68.1km from Kota Kinabalu or about 1 hour 35 minutes’ drive. You can opt to take an Express Bus (bas ekspres) from the Terminal Bus Station at Jalan Padang, Bandaran Berjaya. The departure time will be from 8.30am until 2.00pm with an estimated cost of RM10.00. Upon reaching Kota Belud town or the taxi stand, find a taxi and get to Siasai Village which is about 4.1km or 10 minutes’ drive away from Kota Belud town.
