The Poturidong campsite, conservation and Tagal area, about 1.5 acre in size was declared open in 1985 by the late Gisin Lombut, the then assembly for kiulu. It is the first Tagal site in Sabah. The iconic Luanti Tagal at Nalapak actually followed and improved the Potirudong model. The Poturidong Tagal area is currently overseen by Juara Bin Gidal, 73 who has headed the Tagal committee since 2007.

Coming down a slope on a left turn about 2km after pekan Kiulu, one has to cross a 100 meter concrete bridge built across the Tuaran river. The fish is allowed to breed naturally in deeper waters reffered to as Lubuks. No fish fries are released. Of the two rivers Sg Mantaranau has 8 lubuks n Sg Tuaran has 6 lubuks. The river is divided into 4 zones: Red Zone; the breeding area in which fishing is strictly prohibited at all times; Green zone, where harvesting is allowed occasionally and Yellow Zone where harvesting is done. The areas under the bridges are designated blue zones. Harvest ‘’buka bombon”normally happens once a year in March or as the committee may decide. Normally the catch is in excess of a ton. The fish include (local name) Pelian, Ikan Kelah,Sebarau,Sarawi,Gamato, Sinsilog,Lampan,Supung,Rokot,Turongou,Talapia,Patin and Jalah. The harvest is divided and given to members of the community which is currently about 300 people. Everyone gets an average of 2-3 kilos of fish.

But one has to be careful in the lubuks. Tragedy struck in February 2016 when a teenage boy drowned after being sucked down by water currents at one of the lubuks.

Poturidong has recreation huts and a wide shaded area under bamboo trees for camping. The river also turns murky these days as a result of the ongoing construction upriver of the Telipok-Kiulu-Pukak –Pahu-Lokos-Toboh- bundu Tuhan-Randagong –Ranau road. But Juara Gidal and Lasmen Lopog both says that the villagers are happy as kiulu will be on a major trunk highway. Being the short cut to ranau, the villagers are looking
forward to more visitors, more activities and better income from tourism. They are quite happy to bear with the inconvienience and temporary situation for the three years it is anticipated to take to construct the road. Kiulu is aso linked via Kg Tudan which comes out near Gunung Emas to the Tambunan-Kota Kinabalu road.Kiulu has become an important town and area having important links to various parts of the interior and the west coast. This town and area is set to grow in importance.
