Tuaran
Tuaran district is located in West Coast Division of Sabah. Tuaran has an area of 1,166 square kilometres and the people here consists of Dusun, Bajau, and some Chinese. It has a distinctive nine-story Chinese pagoda as a prominent landmark. The two sub districts within Tuaran are Kiulu and Tamparuli.
Tamparuli is populated mainly by native Dusuns, while a sizeable Chinese community runs most of the shops in the town proper. There are 2 unique bridges in Tamparuli Town. The first one is the suspension bridge which is meant for pedestrians. The second bridge was built by the British in the 1950’s which has its own legend – a tragic love story involving a British Officer, a local girl and a local man.
The sub district of Kiulu got its name from ‘tulu’, which is a small bamboo that commonly grows on the river banks. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for local communities in Kiulu Valley. This town is well-known with its clean river which is famous with white water rafting activity.
