Tagal Poturidong Village, Kiulu

Tagal means “do not” or “no need” in the Kadazandusun language. It is a simple yet effective traditional approach to good stewardship of the river and those caught breaching this law can be fined. This “tagal” in Kiulu has been developed by the villagers with the guidance of the Sabah Fisheries Department. The result of the “Tagal” or “Bombon” system has attracted both domestic and international tourists.
